“You fear what you don’t know.”
This line could easily be mistaken to be an inspirational quote from a celebrity, but it comes from Bengaluru-based Product Manager, Aamna Khan. While speaking about investing in equities through smallcases, Aamna says that she wasn’t averse to equity-related risks, but she didn’t really understand how stock investing worked and that turned her away from them.
“smallcase was just the perfect way to get started,” she says. “I’m now a lot more comfortable with stock investments.”
Aamna heard about smallcase in 2016 through a colleague who was talking about how the company was bringing thematic investing to India. She found the concept of “investing in ideas” to be very intuitive and a lot more accessible than direct equity investments.
Having wanted to explore the stock markets for quite some time, smallcase helped Aamna get started. “I couldn’t really get past the initial feeling of being intimidated by it all,” she says. “This is where smallcase just made so much sense.”
Aamna had been investing in conventional instruments like fixed deposits, provident fund and tax-saving mutual funds earlier, but got started with stock investing through smallcase. “Investing in stocks is no longer some obscure skill that some of my friends seem to be blessed with,” she says. With smallcase, she says she can get better at investing at her own pace while feeling secure about her investments at the same time. smallcase helped her get through the mental barrier she faced earlier.
Towards the end of 2016, Aamna invested in Sustainable Earnings, her first smallcase. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention returns as one of the major benefits of investing in smallcases,” she says. All smallcase users will be able to relate to that. Aamna surely made a great choice to begin her investments with–the Sustainable Earnings smallcase has given 66.64% returns in the past year!
“I like that smallcases are transparent, straightforward and most importantly, familiar.” The familiarity factor comes from every smallcase being built around a specific idea, theme or model that investors can understand easily.
Which brings us back to Aamna’s original quote on fearing what you don’t know. We have designed smallcases solely for this purpose–to remove the fear of equity investments from the minds of investors by giving them simplified and easy-to-understand ideas to put their money in.
The more you know, the less you fear and the better you invest. Don’t believe us? Ask Aamna.
